ARTIST STATEMENT
Through the time-bound stories of algae, water, seaweed, cultivated and naturally-grown plants, soil, and dried grasses woven by time and wind, I echo and mimic the creations of nature through my own manipulation of materials. My work is a critique of the incredibly intertwined relationship we share with nature and the simultaneous tendency to "other" ourselves from it.
I am interested in how our learned history, foundational experiences, and societal conditioning have shaped the way we exist in various environments, and in turn, how that influences the way we interact with the natural world. I intend to create work that stimulates the senses: the very foundation of our memories and our ability to experience.
